Using MidiPlay
If you have followed the installation instructions for MidiPlay
you can run any of the practice files marked with
.
When first you click on a file you will get warning messages; clear the check box in the first one to inhibit it in the future, and choose Run. Clear the check box in the second and choose Continue.
MidiPlay will open and show buttons to play each part; the part concerned will be emphasised on playback. Before playing, choose 'Dialogs' from the Menu and select the first item 'CRH_MixerView_Dialog'. The dialog has sliders on each part to change the volumes; yellow buttons to mute a part; and blue 'solo' buttons to mute all other parts. There is a master volume control on the right side, and a Tempo slider which can be used to speed up the replay to concert tempo as you gain confidence. Finally, you can use the spin controls to fast forward to a specific bar number.
You can use the right hand buttons on the main toolbar to jump
forward a few bars, or to jump back and repeat a few bars. The
toolbar button
will create a
scrolling display of all parts; however, you should use your paper
score in preference as the words are also important!
Note on Apple Quick Time
If you have Apple Quick Time installed on your computer it may take over midi files on web pages - that is, it runs where MidiPlay should. If this occurs, right-click with your mouse and then left-click on 'Save Target as..' in the pop-up menu. Save the file in your Music folder. When you run it from there, MidiPlay will open.
